Reflections on Teachers and Teaching ( APPLICATION DAY)

Reflections on Teachers and Teaching

Have you experienced teaching? How does it feel? Did you feel nervous? Did you feel happy? For me, the partner of learning is teaching. My motto is to “learn, teach and lead with Jesus”. The quote says that if you learn you should know how to lead and teach. For me the purpose of learning is to share your knowledge after obtaining it and learn to give some of your overflowing blessings.
The “Know Your School Day” is a three-day event which involve the students in U.P high to be part of the high school staff, like a subject teacher. Some of the teachers conducted interviews to students who would like to apply on their subject matter. Each student is only allowed to apply two positions. But before you can teach, you should have an official teaching I.D which will be given by the Student Council members. Then at the end of the event, the hired teachers would be given certificates of participation.
In our Know Your School Day, I applied three subjects. I applied in Madam Gallo's subject matters, the Science A and Science C, and another subject handled by Ms. Jo Ann Maquilan, the Physical Education. At first, I decided to apply Physical Education and as a high school secretary like Madam Noreen's job. But when I inquired To Madam Noreen, she said that she had already hired four applicants. So, I switched my mind to Science A, Science C and Physical Education. But before I could be a Science A or Science C teacher, I should first pass through an interview. Madam Gallo conducted an interview for for Science A and Science C applicants. When it was my turn to be interviewed, on the moment that I opened the door of the office, I really felt extreme tense, I am afraid that I cannot answer the questions well. But when I sat down the chair, I already felt confident because in my mind is no matter what happen, I will not blame myself for I have done my very best. Madam Gallo asked various kinds of questions about my teaching skills. When I answered the questioned, I answered them confidently, surely and straight to the point so that it would sound very perfect. During my interview, I noticed that every answer I give, Madam Gallo always gives supporting details about my answer. Then after my interview, Madam Gallo informed me that the results will be given on the following day before lunchtime.

The following day, the results were given by Madam Nuñez during our Math time. At that time, Madam Nuñez was in a hurry because she still had a meeting to attend at that time. Because of that reason, she delivered it hurriedly and without suspense that's why the hired teachers where traumatized and shocked about the results. And the thing that really struck me is that when I heard my name read by Madam Nuñez. I was really shocked about it. I was qualified to be a teacher of Science A subject. Then the note said that Madam Gallo would let us go to the faculty room to have our orientation of what we are going to discuss on class. So, that afternoon we went to the faculty for our orientation. Madam Gallo just let us decide what topic do we want on her chosen topics. I chose Chapter 20 because it sounds very simple but interesting and not hard for me to explain to my student about that topic. The containing topic of the chapter is about the food and energy pyramid and the different ecological relationships between participating organisms in a biotic community. I thought that it is more simpler than that of the Chapter 19 has which are about cells, I thought that the topic about cells are very complex and complicated.

This entry is about my experience in the first day of the Know Your School Day in our school which is the application day too.
